Description
Started in 1403, the Gur Emir is the mausoleum of the Asian conqueror Timur (Tamerlane) in Samarkand (Uzbekistan). It was the precursor and model for the great Mughal tombs and the Taj Mahal. The wider mausoleum complex contains the tombs of Tamerlane, his sons and grandsons.
