Description
The USS Constitution is the oldest commissioned vessel still afloat in the World - having been built in Boston in 1787 and named by George Washington. During an engagement with the Royal Navy during the War of 1812, the southern live oak hull resisted British shot so well that the Constitution gained the nickname of "Old Ironsides". The ship is permanently moored at the Charlestown Naval Yard in Boston, but still makes the occasional sortie out in the bay.
