Wonderful image! Congratulations on your feature in the “Landscape and Landmark Photography” group!

Artist's Description

Besalu is a medieval village in the Spanish Pyrenees which can still be entered via the 12th century romanesque bridge and gatehouse. Wilfred the Hairy, credited with the unification of Catalonia, was born here in 878.

The cobbled streets lead to a variety of medieval buildings and interesting craft shops. There is also a chocolate seller who makes the greatest hot chocolate imaginable: thick, hot and with a good pinch of chili - just as the Aztecs made it!

About Nigel Fletcher-Jones

Nigel Fletcher-Jones

I am currently based in Tuscany, Italy and Cairo, Egypt, having previously lived in the US, Netherlands and Britain. Trained in the UK as an archaeologist and anthropologist, most of my images reflect my continuing fascination with the prehistoric and historic past. Images of non-European cultures and historic landscapes also play a large part in my work. My love of the past is also often reflected in the presentation of my images - which often mimics historical styles of representation from faux prints to postcards and antique photographs.
