Description
Gloucester Cathedral originated in 678 or 679 with the foundation of an abbey dedicated to Saint Peter. The abbey was dissolved by King Henry VIII in 1540. The cathedral combines Gothic and Romanesque architecture and the cloisters at Gloucester are the earliest surviving fan vaults in the (Gothic) Perpendicular style having been designed in the middle 14th Century.

Hello! What a beautiful image of a magnificent building. Thank you for the wonderful description, esp. regarding the fan vault part. I love gothic architecture and am sorry I have not seen this building. A fave and a vote. Sincerely, Kirsten
