The castle at Comano, within the mountainous territory of the Lunigiana in northwest Tuscany, dates, at least, to 884. In that year the Marquis and Duke of Tuscany Adalbert I donated the castle to the Benedictine monastery at Aulla.
The site is dominated by a 13th-century cylindrical tower built by the Malaspina, and is enclosed in a 15th-century curtain wall.
